What is Sport & Remedial Massage?

Remedial massage therapy simply means using manual therapy techniques to try to "remedy" a problem. To offer a remedy I aim to do more than just relieve pain. I use a range of techniques including Soft tissue release, Neuro muscular release, Muscle energy techniques, muscle length and function tests to help remedy the problem. I also try to help you understand how the problem came about and how it can be avoided in the future.

In addition to the above benefits this type of massage can also:

It isn't just for Sports people, why not give it a try.

What is Swedish/Holistic Massage?

This treatment follows a routine and usually works on all parts of the body including, back, neck, legs, feet, arms and hands.

The strokes used are called effleurage, petrisage, kneading, friction, stretching, wringing, percussion hacking and tapping.

These techniques may sound painful but when combined together work to help relax and stimulate the body and mind.

What happens during a treatment?

Swedish/Holistic massage

After an initial screening or feedback from the previous session, you will be asked to undress to your underwear and lay under the towels.

The massage works on different areas of the body in turn. It will usually last for an hour. Sometimes music is played. If you wish you can talk to the therapist or you may choose to stay quiet.

Sport and remedial Massage

After the initial screening and feedback discussion an assessment of your posture is undertaken, usually in your underwear. This will help to determine the areas of your body which need work and to gain a fuller picture of the reasons why your injury /pain occurred.

The therapist will work on specific areas agreed on by you both. This may not include the whole body. The treatment is more interactive and will sometimes require you to work with the therapist.

Screening information

You will be asked to answer some questions about your health, lifestyle and why you want the treatment. Certain conditions are contraindicated for massage. These are listed below:

We would need to decide if massage would be appropriate if you have any of these conditions. We would need you to obtain written consent from your doctor, before making a decision.
